Barleans
In 1976 Dave and Barb Barlean founded Barlean’s Fishery on a 12 acre farm (now grown to 42 acres), in rural Ferndale, WA, minutes from the ocean near the Canadian boarder. The beginning of a successful flaxseed oil business was established in 1989 by son, Bruce Barlean. Bruce Barlean ventured to Germany to obtain an official endorsement from Dr. Johanna Budwig, the world authority on Omega-3 oils. Barlean’s became a consumer brand in 1992, (during the two years prior, flax oil was sold only by the barrel to other suppliers).
Barlean’s products have met international acclaim with leading health and nutrition authorities, doctors, professional athletes and health practitioners. In 2009 it was the Top Rated Health Food Store Brand for Consumer Satisfaction by Consumer Lab. In 2009 it became Manufacturer of the Year Vitamin Retailer magazine.
